Energy efficiency is a cornerstone of energy policy in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region, with states increasingly seeing the value of pursuing energy efficiency as a least-cost resource that delivers a myriad of proven economic, environmental and social benefits. NEEP's Policy Outreach & Analysis team conducts research and analysis related to best practices in the efficient use of energy in buildings and industry. We serve as a resource to policymakers and program administrators, among others.
In our 2017 Regional Roundup: Next Generation Energy Efficiency, NEEP describes a number of trends we see as key to harnessing energy efficiency as an integral and integrated part of our clean energy future. At its most basic, we believe Next Generation Energy Efficiency includes:
- Deep and comprehensive cost-effective energy savings for all fuels.
- Controls and other intelligent efficiency technologies, and data analytics to maximize savings.
- Advanced building design and cutting-edge installation, operation and maintenance of energy systems.
- Integration of energy efficiency with demand side resources including renewable power, energy storage, combined heat and power and electric vehicles.
- Strategic electrification and geo-targeting to limit the need for further investments in distribution and transmission system.
- Engagement and animation of private markets to deliver high efficiency products and solutions.
